Water Works District No. 3 of Rapides Parish is the supplier of safe drinking water for all of Ward 10 of Rapides Parish, all of the Town of Ball, portions of the City of Pineville, numerous public schools, the Veterans Administration Hospital, the United States Forest Service, the industries of Dresser, Proctor and Gamble, Camp Beauregard, Pinecrest Hospital, all of the businesses and residences in the area, several fire districts and a private community waterworks district in Grant Parish. Although this District operates several water wells, its primary source of water is from Big Creek, near Pollock, Louisiana.
Water Works District No. 3 of Rapides Parish is headquartered in a beautiful office and warehouse complex on Third Street, in Tioga, Louisiana. The boardroom, administration offices and billing are all located at this facility. The repair crews, with all of the necessary tools, equipment and spare parts are located in the warehouse, behind the office.
We also maintain and operate a weir (dam) and pumping station on Big Creek, near Pollock Louisiana. A new weir was recently completed and, as with prior dams at the site, forms a side pool of water in Big Creek. That pool then flows down through the intake pipes into the large pumps at the bottom of the station. The raw creek water is then pumped approximately seven miles to the treatment plant on Camp Livingston. The treatment plant is where the water is chemically processed for distribution. Our plant meets all current environmental, safety and health standards of both the federal and state governments. The pumping and treatment facilities are operated 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
Besides the facilities mentioned, we also maintain hundreds of miles of pipelines of various sizes. Additionally, there are 4 well sites located throughout the north Rapides Parish. The District also maintains several ground and elevated tank storage facilities at various locations.
